Strategic Planning at the 11th US/ICOMOS International Symposium
Nearly 200 people met in Washington, DC after Memorial Day for the 11th US/ICOMOS International Symposium “US Participation in the Global Heritage Community.” As a follow-up to the Preserve America Summit, the US/ICOMOS Symposium included both plenary and breakout sessions to provide examples of US involvement with international projects and exchanges and to allow participants the opportunity to make their own recommend
Ackerman Presented First Ann Webster Smith Award for International Heritage Achievement
The work and achievements of Ann Webster Smith as a champion in building a global culture of protection for the cultural heritage of the entire world were prolific and varied. For three decades Ms Smith was at the very core of the dreamers and doers who nurtured ICOMOS to its maturity, personifying a spirit of cooperation and teamwork.
New Interactive US/ICOMOS Website Under Development
Thanks to the generosity of the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training and the web development skills of Ed “Chops” FitzGerald (former US/ICOMOS Intern to Scotland), US/ICOMOS is on the verge of gaining new interactive web capabilities. The new US/ICOMOS website will represent the first concrete development stemming from the resolutions prepared at the 11th US/ICOMOS International Symposium.
US/ICOMOS Elects New Board Memebers and Inducts New Fellows
At the US/ICOMOS Annual Meeting, held Saturday, May 31, 2008 during the 11th US/ICOMOS International Symposium, members elected four new members to the Board of Trustees. Retiring Board members due to term limits are Kathryn Barth (Colorado), Douglas Comer (Maryland) and Jonathan Poston (South Carolina; in addition, David Look (Virginia) resigned for personal reasons.
New Agreement Between US/ICOMOS and the National Park Service
US/ICOMOS has signed a new agreement with the Washington office of the National Park Service. Each year, NPS awards US/ICOMOS a grant to help support a variety of programs and activities. This year, the agreement further outlines ways in which NPS can be a more formal partner with US/ICOMOS and ways in which US/ICOMOS can benefit NPS more directly.
