Jan C.K. Anderson, FAPT
Chairman of the Board of Trustees
Dear Members and Friends of the US/ICOMOS,
The Board of Trustees of US/ICOMOS is very pleased to announce that Bill Pencek has begun work as our new Executive Director. Known to many of you, Bill has distinguished himself as a leader in historic preservation, smart growth, community revitalization, natural and cultural resource conservation and cultural tourism.
Most recently Bill has served as Deputy Managing Director of the Division of Tourism, Film and the Arts (TFA) at the Maryland Department of Commerce. At TFA, he also served as the Executive Director of the Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, which raised and leveraged more than $30 million for investments in the cultural resources of the 560-mile land and water Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail. The Heritage events associated with the war of 1812 Bicentenial were the largest in Maryland’s history, with participation by more than 3 million people. Bill was also the founding executive director of the Baltimore National Heritage Area, and long-time Deputy Director/Deputy SHPO of the Maryland Historical Trust. His community and professional activities are extensive.
As we welcome Bill, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Andrew Potts, who has served with great zeal as our executive director since February 2015. Andrew came to work at US/ICOMOS from Nixon Peabody LLP, and will be returning there in 2017.
Bill Pencek has established a very impressive track record of success and leadership in his many endeavors, and we believe that he is the ideal person to help steer US/ICOMOS through the myriad opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for US/ICOMOS as we begin our next fifty years.
I hope you all will join me in welcoming Bill Pencek!
