Siobhan Duffy's internship involved excavation and archaeological restoration at two sites under the auspices of the Dayton Society of Natural History in Ohio, which oversees both the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery and the SunWatch Indian Village. Part of her internship included field and laboratory work associated with excavations at Wegerzyn Gardens, part of a 13th-century settlement site being excavated by the Boonshoft Museum's Anthropology Department.

In addition, Siobhan was able to assist with mapping the posthole pattern of a ceremonial structure at SunWatch, another 13th-century settlement site, and the reconstruction of the enclosing stockade at SunWatch.  This latter project involved the harvesting, preparation, and incorporation of materials, such as willow and maple, into the structures under reconstruction.  During both projects Siobhan had the opportunity to work with undergraduate and graduate students from the U.S. and with local volunteers.

"Working as a member of a close-knit team has created lasting friendship ties, while the skills acquired during the internship will benefit me greatly in my future career choices.  On educational, cultural, and personal levels, this summer has been an unforgettable experience, the memories of which I will always cherish."
