Michiko Tanaka worked with other US/ICOMOS interns with the National Park Service's HABS/HAER program documenting historic covered wooden bridges in Vermont.  During the course of the internship, Michiko had the opportunity to participate in the First National Covered Bridge Conference at the University of Vermont in Burlington, make measured drawings of several covered bridges throughout the state, and convert these measured drawings to computer records and drawings.  Michiko also helped finalize computer drawings of bridges in Indiana, Ohio, and Oregon.  Michiko's US/ICOMOS teammates include interns from England, Germany, Poland, and Romania  as well as HABS/HAER staff and team members from the United States.

"I gained great knowledge of the historical conservation field of other countries....I'm hoping that the US preservation field continues accepting young international professionals to work together, opening windows to the world to exchange knowledge, opinions, and techniques."
