Jennifer Armstrong conducted her internship with the National Park Service's Outer Bank Group.  The Outer Banks are a string of barrier islands off the Atlantic Coast of North Carolina.  Near the southern end of the Outer Banks is Cape Hatteras, much of which is now protected as the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

While still in Washington, DC, Jennifer conducted historical research at the National Archives to search for the source of the marble and slate tiling used in the construction of the Cape Hatteras (1970) and Bodie Island (1872)  Lighthouses. Once on the Outer Banks, Jennifer drafting an annotating a conditions assessment of the tiled floor area of the Bodie Island Lighthouse.

In addition, Jennifer worked documentation for the Hatteras Island Weather Bureau Station at Hatteras Village, which was built in 1901 and is currently under restoration by the National Park Service.
