Intern Report:

Jeanwha and fellow intern, Mariana Isa spent much of the summer mapping, documenting, and conducting condition assessments of the main buildings, tombs, and markers in Magnolia Cemetery, one of the earliest (1850) garden cemeteries in the United States, located on Charleston Neck, north of the historic district of Charleston, South Carolina. They first determined the structure of the cemetery from historic documents and drawings, then set about making a detailed map of all the plots and other elements, selected four-five monuments on the priority list, measured them and made drawings using AutoCAD. The resulting research documents and measured drawings are to be included submitted for an architecture measured drawing competition and also published as a book, named “The Silent City.”
