Jacobo Herdoiz conducted his internship with Cornerstones Community Partnerships, a non-profit organization that works with communities to restore historic structures, encourage traditional building practices, and reinforce cultural values. Jacobo was assigned to the Socorro Mission Preservation Project in El Paso, Texas.
The Socorro Mission was built by Franciscan priests in the early 1840s as an adobe structure with a thatched roof. Jacobo assisted with documentation of the mission structure, recording architectural elements and archaeological excavations.
In addition, he was able to assist with the implementation of a training workshop and assisted with the preparation of architectural drawings that will be published in a brochure.
"This internship has been one of the most exciting and productive experiences of my young career. I met plenty of nice and friendly people with whom I'm sure we can formulate projects and future collaborations."
