"Charleston is a great place for architecture. I learned about 'piazzas,' earthquake bolts, and Freedmen's cottages. I also learned that if you see a pineapple on the door, it is a sign of welcome. This internship was a great experience to put into practice what I have learned and this opportunity helped me grow both professionally land personally."The Historic Charleston Foundation is a long-term partner of the US/ICOMOS International Intern Program. In 2005, Flaminia Poloni of Italy spent her internship documenting the Anderson House (formerly the Daniel Cannon House, built 1802-15). She also had the opportunity to live in the historic Jenkins Mikell House (ca. 1854) during her stay in Charleston.
