"The time spent in Russia was an incredible experience made possible by the warmth and hospitality of all those connected to the project and genuine love and commitment they have for the Petropavloski district."
Edgar Garcia's internship in Russia stemmed from contacts made during the 2004 US-Russia Volunteer Initiative, which was funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The internship focused on the Petropavloski district, a former 18th- to 19th-century manufacturing complex that includes a large industrial textile factory, a residential community of late 19th-century wooden homes, and several 18th- to 19th-century Russian Orthodox churches. Edgar's primary project involved compiling a building inventory of some 300 buildings associated with this 19th-century manufacturing village.
