Brandy Dubs
The National Institute for Architectural Heritage (NIAH) in Dublin has initiated a country-wide survey of historic architectural properties. One of the primary goals of this survey is to educate the public about the importance of historic properties in Ireland and their need for conservation/restoration efforts. To that end, NIAH is publishing a series of books showcasing the nation’s architectural heritage to the public (see NIAH Publications). Brandy’s primary tasks involved compiling architectural images for the book An Introduction to the Architectural Heritage of County Clare.
This internship was developed primarily through the efforts of Emmeline Henderson, former US/ICOMOS Intern from Ireland (see report on her 2003 internship with the GSA Center for Historic Buildings in Washington, DC). Now Secretary of ICOMOS Ireland, Emmeline identified the NIAH as a suitable host organization and worked with NIAH staff to secure funds for this internship. Plans are being made to make this an annual internship and to include an bilateral exchange with an intern from Ireland coming to the US each year.
