When the Monumental Earthworks of Poverty Point was inscribed onto the World Heritage List in 2014, the List gained a remarkable achievement in earthen construction that went unsurpassed for at least 2,000 years. The complex of mounds, ridges, and plazas located in Northeast Louisiana was created and used for residential and ceremonial purposes by a society of hunter fisher-gatherers between 3700 and 3100 BP. Five thousand years later, the Advocates for Poverty Point group is working hard to help support the Louisiana State Park’s stewardship of this amazing site.
